This Ecosystem project develops an Active Inference agent model of human translation processes. It applies the free energy framework to the cognitive and linguistic tasks involved in translating between languages, producing models of human translation behavior.
Using Active Inference as a modeling framework, the project models translation as an inference problem — where the translator minimizes prediction error about target language representations given source language inputs. Work includes theoretical development and agent implementations, connecting to the Translation Process Research field.
Linguists, cognitive scientists, and NLP researchers interested in Active Inference models are welcome.
