Das Applied Active Inference Symposium ist eine jährliche Online-Veranstaltung, die das globale Active Inference-Community zusammenführt. Es wurde fünfmal von 2021 bis 2025 durchgeführt und das 6. Symposium findet vom 12. bis 14. November 2026 statt. Jede Ausgabe umfasst Forschungsvorträge, Podiumsdiskussionen, Workshops und kollaborative Sitzungen im Bereich der computationellen Neurowissenschaften, KI, Robotik, Ökologie, Wirtschaft, Gesundheitswesen, Bildung und anderen Bereichen, wobei vollständige Aufzeichnungen und Protokolle anschließend öffentlich veröffentlicht werden.
Über das Symposion
The Applied Active Inference Symposium is the Institute's flagship annual event. It brings together researchers, educators, practitioners, and community members who are applying Active Inference across scientific and practical domains.
Every edition features talks, panels, workshops, and community sessions, and the keynote address and panel have featured Karl Friston since the inaugural gathering. The Symposium is online with no financial barrier to participation, and full recordings are made publicly available on the Institute YouTube channel after each edition.
1. Symposium (2021)

2. Symposium (2022): Robotik
Das 2. Symposium 2022 hatte Robotik als Thema und fand über zwei Intervalle am 31. Juli (16:00 Uhr und 04:00 UTC) statt, um die globale Gemeinschaft zu erreichen. Der Protokolltranskript ist auf Zenodo archiviert, das Programm steht im Symposium-Archiv zur Verfügung und beide Intervalle sind auf YouTube aufgezeichnet.
3. Symposium (2023): Gestaltung von Ökosystemen gemeinsamer Intelligenz
Das 3. Angewandtes Symposium zur aktiven Inferenz, mit dem Thema „Enactment von Ökosystemen des gemeinsamen Intellekts“, untersuchte, wie gemeinsamer Intellekt über Agenten, Gemeinschaften und Institutionen hinweg entfaltet wird. Der Programmablauf ist im Archiv des Symposiums verfügbar und beide Intervalle sind auf dem Institute YouTube-Kanal aufgezeichnet.
4. Symposium (2024)
Das 4. Angewandtes Symposium zur aktiven Inferenz im Jahr 2024 setzte die Tradition von anwendungsorientierten Vorträgen, Panels und Workshops fort. Das Programm ist über den Symposium-Archiv verfügbar und die Sitzungen sind in drei Teilen auf YouTube aufgezeichnet.
5. Symposium (2025)
Das 5. Angewandtes Symposium zur aktiven Inferenz im Jahr 2025 brachte die Community zusammen für weitere Forschung, Tooling- und Bildungsaktivitäten. Das Programm ist über den Symposium-Archiv verfügbar und die Sitzungen sind in drei Teilen auf YouTube aufgezeichnet.
6. Symposium (2026)
We are now preparing the 6th Applied Active Inference Symposium, to be held online on 12-14 November 2026. As with previous editions, the keynote address and panel will feature Karl Friston, and the program explores the applications and frontiers of Active Inference.
The Symposium is online with no financial barrier to participation, and abstracts of presentations are published in collaboration with the Active Inference Journal. All current information is gathered on the Symposium hub.

We invite researchers and practitioners to submit presentations and workshops for the 6th Symposium, aligned with four themes: mission-critical applications of Active Inference across domains; open science and tool development; learning and education; and Active Inference at Play — hands-on, multimodal, and exploratory formats beyond text. Submissions may be pre-recorded video presentations, livestream panel or discussion slots, or workshops, tutorials, and hackathons with open-source materials.
The presenter submission deadline is 31 October 2026, ahead of the 12-14 November Symposium dates. Please share the invitation widely.

Sponsoring the Applied Active Inference Symposium supports open-source scientific innovation, global open-science collaboration through a 501(c)(3) non-profit, broad interdisciplinary impact, and visibility to talent and partners at the frontier of AI and cognitive science. Sponsorship is offered across three escalating levels: Level 1 lists sponsors in the program and materials and acknowledges them in livestreams; Level 2 adds a logo in the Adventure space, a short pre-recorded video on the livestream, and introductions to presenters, co-organizers, fellows, officers, and advisors; Level 3 adds consideration of a session, speaker, or theme in the program, an arranged private session, and an optional custom hand-drawn Active Inference artwork.
