Freiwilligenarbeit ist die gängigste Art, wie Menschen am Institut teilnehmen. Es gibt keine Fachkenntnisgrenze – Beiträge auf jeder Stufe der Vertrautheit mit Aktiver Inferenz sind sinnvoll und willkommen.
Was Freiwillige tun
Freiwillige engagieren sich in allen Bereichen der Institutstätigkeit: Teilnahme und Unterstützung von Lerngruppen, Beitrag zur Projektdokumentation, Hilfe bei Betrieb und Kommunikation, Verfassen von Zusammenfassungen und Notizen, Produktion oder Bearbeitung von Audio-Visuellem, Moderation von Community-Räumen, Testen von Tools und Teilnahme an Diskussionen. Beiträge können so klein sein wie regelmäßige Anwesenheit in einer Lerngruppe oder so umfangreich wie eine mehrmonatige Leitung eines Dokumentationsvorhabens.

The best way to start volunteering is to join the Discord community, attend an open activity, and let the organizers know you are interested in contributing. The newsletter archive covers recent activities and projects.
The Institute uses a volunteer registration form to collect interest and match volunteers with projects — the Volunteer pathway page and the organizers in Discord have the current link. No prior experience is required to introduce yourself and find where you can help.

Volunteers learn Active Inference by working alongside researchers and educators at the frontier of the field. Contributing to real projects — even through small tasks — builds familiarity with the concepts, the community, and the tools in ways that passive reading cannot.
Many volunteers have moved into internship, mentorship, and fellowship roles through participation that began as informal contribution.

Volunteering is flexible by design. There is no minimum time commitment.
You can contribute when you have capacity and step back when you do not. The Institute's global community spans many time zones, so most activities are recorded and many contributions are asynchronous.
Sustained engagement over time is valuable, but irregular participation is also welcome.

Volunteering is the entry point to the full set of Institute Programs. After gaining experience as a volunteer, many people move to more structured engagement through internship, mentorship, or fellowship.
There are also open-source contribution opportunities for those who prefer to contribute code, data, or tooling to public repositories.
