We are excited to announce two new programs at the Institute:
- Research Fellows — for individuals working in the field of Active Inference
- Partnerships — for organizations looking to engage with and support the Active Inference ecosystem.

1. Research Fellows
The Active Inference Institute is excited to announce the launch of its Research Fellows program, designed to support and advance research in Active Inference. This program provides a unique opportunity for exceptional researchers of different career stages to join the Institute's vibrant community and contribute to the development of Active Inference and its applications across domains.
Join us in pushing the boundaries of Active Inference research and shaping the future of this exciting field!
Research Fellows will conduct self-directed, innovative research projects that align with the Institute's research and education missions. Research Fellows will have access to the Institute's facilities, computational resources, and a network of leading experts in the field. Fellows will also benefit from professional development opportunities, including mentorship, training workshops, and support for open science practices.
Eventually, we look forward to developing our collaborations, philanthropy, and partnerships at the Institute, in order to enable fellowships to be paid financially in some way. For now the Research Fellow position is an unpaid non-employee position.
The initial Research Fellows will begin during in 2024, with a default term of 2 years (possibly renewable). At this time, applications are open & will be considered on a rolling basis.

2. Partnerships
The Active Inference Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to learning, researching, and applying Active Inference for the benefit of all, is excited to announce the launch of its new Partnership Program. This program invites mission-aligned organizations to contribute to the growth and sustainability of the Active Inference open source ecosystem at a critical time in the development of the field.
As adoption of Active Inference accelerates across industries, the Institute recognizes the importance of fostering a robust, collaborative community to ensure this powerful framework reaches its full potential. Partnering organizations will play a key role in this effort by providing financial support, dedicating time and attention to joint initiatives, and offering valuable in-kind resources.
Partnership benefits include:
- Public recognition as a supporter of open science, cutting-edge research, and accessible education.
- Opportunities to shape the Institute's priorities and programs through feedback and collaboration.
- Access to the Institute's network of Active Inference researchers, developers, interns, and learners.
- Ability to leverage the Institute's expertise and resources to advance internal and joint Active Inference initiatives.
Partnering organizations can support the Institute through:
- Financial contributions to fund critical programs and infrastructure
- In-kind donations such as compute resources, datasets, or software tools
- Dedicated staff time for participation in Institute working groups, projects, courses, and events
