Welcome to the January 2024 updates from the Active Inference Institute.
The year is off to an amazing year & we thank you for being a part of it.
Institute scale
- The Scientific Advisory Board for 2024 has had a kick-off meeting for setting up operations and directions of work. It is an awesome group & we are very excited for the collaborations already concurring.
- We have set up project-based participation at the Institute.
- We consider proposals for projects that could be active in 2024. If you would like to facilitate (or co-facilitate) an institute-scale or independent project please complete the Prepare form.
- For projects to retain their active status on the quarterly timescale, and to otherwise inform the Institute, Project Measurement forms are for project updates and outcomes.
- If you would like to financially support the Institute — we now have a bank account set up for receiving donations. In the coming months we will develop programs for providing different kinds of support to the Institute, for now please contact us at [Contact the Institute](site-contact) if you are interested to provide any philanthropic expertise, and/or be one of our first donors!
Education
- There are currently 5 active projects in the EduActive organizational unit. Please check them out & we will provide updates from these projects in the coming months.
- To register for the Parr, Pezzulo, Friston 2022 Active Inference Textbook Group in 2024, please see here for more information and the Textbook Group registration form, or check out our group’s shared niche directly.
- Our conversational podcast series hosted by Darius Parvizi-Wayne, Active Inference Insights, continues. In January there were Insights episodes 006 with Adam Safron, 007 with Vicente Raja & Jeff Beck, and 008 with Alexander Ororbia. The audio-only podcast versions can be found here on Spotify.
- We had many great livestreams this month. Here are just a few highlights:

- Insights #007 Vicente Raja & Jeff Beck ~ The Markov Blanket Trick Debate
- OrgStream #006.1 - Cent Hosten, Janita Chalam, Hazel - d20 Governance: an experimental governance environment
